HISTORY

Milas Sıtkı Koçman Vocational School, established with the decision of Higher Education Council dated 21.04.1995, started training on 4th of August in 1995. The classes were held in Hungarian House donated by Nedime Beler. The School has begun its activities in the fall semester of 1995-1996 academic year with 14 students and 1 faculty member.
Due to an increase in the number of students and opening new departments such as Carpet Weaving and Tourism & Hotel Management, the school had to move to another place donated by Halil Gümüşel and Halil Özler and carried on its activities for five years there. In the meantime, the management of school and Rectorate were searching for a place where it could be possible to build school’s own building. Finally, 13000 square meters area was found within the boundaries of Beçin Town belongs to Turkish Coal Enterprises. The 5-storey school construction started on 23 January 2000 was completed in a short period of time as 5 months. Thus, the school was ready for the academic year of 2001-2002 with its own building.

WHY THE VOCATIONAL SCHOOL WAS NAMED AS SITKI KOÇMAN?
It was not possible to finish the construction of the vocational school with the budget allocated by the government. Only the basement level of school construction could be completed with the donation of 27 billion TL and other materials collected from the locals. Meanwhile, a philanthropist Sıtkı Koçman, who had contributed to the growth and development of our university, conduced to completion of construction by supporting the budget.
At the opening ceremony of our school on 5th October, 2001, Sıtkı Koçman gave a speech and said in his speech “We can do everything in harmony. We are used to working alone and acting individually. We are all stronger when we work together. I have been working for 70 years. I learn new things every day. We must love each other. The most important thing for a human being is reputation. Do not lie. Always be honest”
We commemorate Sıtkı Koçman with respect, love and gratitude.
